
Chinese Communist Party officials refused to comment on charges that Beijing was deliberating delaying a solution to the Dalai Lama issue in the hope that the problem would be sorted out once the 71-year old Tibetan leader dies. The issue has caused some controversy after Phuntso Wangye, an aging Tibetan Communist who led Chinese advance troops into Tibet in 1951, recently wrote a letter to president Hu Jintao accusing vested interests of trying to block Dalai Lama's return. He said some hawks made a living and became rich by playing the Dalai Lama card.
